Christmas is a time to be spent at home in Foxford with your friends and family. Why not get out of the house ? and see the sites of our beautiful village. Take some pics ? and share them with the world! ?
Here are our top 6 things to do this Christmas in Foxford
1. Visit the Crib
View the locally erected and decorated crib in St.Michaels Church which has been taken care of by the Lavin family for over 65 years, most recently by Gabriel and GearĂłid.
There is a lovely story behind this crib going back as far as 1950 where Tom Lavin crafted the frame for the crib, Padraig Gaffney put together the backdrop and the original statues which came from Italy. They are still in use and more recently the statues were cleaned, repaired and repainted by Maureen Lavin.
Make sure to pop over for a look.
2. Walk along the river by the Admiral Brown Promenade
This little village is the home place of Admiral William Brown and while you are home this Christmas why not take a worth while stroll ??‍♂️ down by the promenade with a loved one or on your own. It will give you a great insight into the life in which the admiral lived and you will also get to see a very unique sight along the banks of the River Moy.
We suggest a nice cold crisp day ❄️ for this and make sure to wrap up well!
3. Reminisce in the Woollen Mills
Why not revisit the Mills, take the tour, and bring back some good old memories from your school days.
The multimedia tour provides an interesting insight into the origins of the mill in the late 1800’s.
If your feeling peckish, grab some lunch ? and take in the iconic Foxford items of history on display. Evidence of the working mill is inherent in every feature right down to the sound of the working loom below your very feet ?
4. Drive out to Pontoon & Callow Lakes
Take in the majestic sites and sounds of these two beautiful lakes east ➡️ and west ⬅️ of Foxford, both are less than a 10 minute drive from Foxford centre. Sit back and enjoy the stillness of the scenery ?
5. Stroll up Braid and take in the breathtaking scenery
Nothing better than taking on this energising trek up Braid to be presented with a full view of our beautiful little village â›°
WARNING: Do not bring the good shoes
6. Hot Whiskey in Guiry’s
There is nothing better than coming in out of the cold, into a roaring fire and settling down with a nice hot whiskey with some lemon, cloves and sugar. This is sure to warm you up…
